At a Snail’s Pace
Just a video of some snails cruising around the tidal flats on Monomoy.
Welcome to PIPLODES
Part of our work requires entering observation data into the PIPLODES, perhaps better known as the “On-line Data Entry System for MA Piping Plover Census Form” according to the commonwealth of Massachusetts. Here’s a training video we’ve created over the past week showing people how it’s done; it really highlights the power and simplicity ofContinue reading “Welcome to PIPLODES”

It’s kind of like a city, and it’s the contrast with the peace and solitude of the rest of the islandContinue reading “Camp Life”
Landfall
The most exciting day of the week: getting back to land and having people look at you like an alien as you leap from the boat into the shallows, covered in days of sunblock and tern poop, harsh tanlines, and carrying your life in a soaking wet pack.
From Lighthouse to Lighthome
The walk from The Colony to the Monomoy Light is about an hour and a half- it depends on how fast you walk, which route you take, and how much good stuff you find washed ashore along the way.
